Warning: trust the price per pound math, not the sticker
My neighbor Dave swore by buying the family pack of chicken thighs even when I only needed two, said it always comes out cheaper per serving. Well, I tried his trick at the Kroger on 5th and the pack was 3.2 lbs at $1.99/lb. After trimming fat and bones, I got maybe 1.8 lbs of actual meat, so that 'cheap' pack ran me $3.54 a pound once I did the real math. I went back to buying single thighs from the butcher counter and my weekly total dropped by $4. Has anyone else caught this trap with bulk meats, or is Dave just clueless like me?

Man, same thing happened to me with pork shoulder last month... ended up paying like $5 a pound after all the fat and bone came off. Dave means well but that math only works if you actually eat every scrap of it.
