My $8 bag of 'bargain' lentils was actually 3 bucks wasted

I grabbed this huge bag of bulk lentils from a discount bin at a little market in Chicago, thinking I'd save cash on cheap meals. Turns out they were almost impossible to soften properly (even after soaking overnight and cooking for 2 hours), so I ended up tossing half of them. That's three dollars down the drain, and I should have just spent 4 bucks on a name brand at Aldi. Anyone else fall for a bulk bin deal that backfired?

oh man I feel this deep in my soul. last year I bought a giant bag of "discount" brown rice from a random bulk bin and it was basically just pebbles with a tan. I soaked it for like a day and a half and it still cracked my tooth when I tried to eat it. my dentist was like "did you get into a fight with a bag of gravel?" and I had to admit yes. honestly sometimes you gotta just pay the extra dollar to avoid becoming a human food processor. three bucks down the drain is basically the tax for learning that lesson the hard way.

It's like a life rule now: the cheap version usually ends up costing you more in time or frustration. Every time I try to cut a corner on something basic, I end up paying double to fix it later.
