I called bullshit on buying dried beans but damn I was wrong
For years I swore canned beans were just as good and half the work. Then I tried making black beans from scratch last month because I was broke after a car repair. A 2lb bag costs like $2.50 and makes enough for 8 meals easy. The texture is way better and they don't have that weird slimy can liquid. Anyone else have a cheap swap they fought against forever?

My only correction is that $2.50 for 2lbs is actually kind of high if you shop around, a lot of stores sell big bags for under a dollar a pound. But your point still stands because dried beans are so cheap it's almost silly not to try them. The texture thing is huge too, canned beans turn to total mush if you look at them wrong and dried ones actually hold their shape. I will say canned are still fine for things like refried beans where you're mashing them up anyway. Not trying to nitpick, just throwing that out there for anyone who wants to save even more money on beans.

gotta disagree here lol. canned beans are way more consistent and i don't have to plan a day ahead just to have beans for dinner. plus that slimy liquid is actually useful for thickening stuff like soups and stews, gives it a nice velvety texture.
