Had a week last August where my 4 dollar meal plan actually worked

I was on a really tight budget after some car repairs in Nashville last August. For five days straight I made black beans with rice and a fried egg on top, cost about 1.50 per serving since I bought the beans dry in a big bag. Then I tried adding a chopped up sweet potato I got for 80 cents to stretch it further and it honestly tasted like a real meal. The trick was buying a bulk bag of rice for 3 bucks that lasted me two weeks. Has anyone found a way to make those cheap meals not get boring after day three?

Not sure why you'd need to stretch a 4 dollar meal plan.

A friend of mine did something similar with canned sardines and instant ramen, said it was surprisingly good for like a week before she couldn't stand the fish smell anymore. She started crumbling up a cheap tortilla chip on top for crunch and that saved it for her.
