Dried beans are cheaper but the math surprised me

I started tracking my grocery receipts last month and found that a 1-pound bag of dry pinto beans at my local WinCo makes about 6 cups cooked for $1.50, versus $2.10 for the same amount in cans. That works out to $0.25 a serving versus $0.70, which adds up to around $18 a month if I cook beans twice a week. Anyone else do the full cost breakdown on staples like rice or lentils and find a bigger gap than they expected?

Honestly, I gotta push back on that whole math thing. You're counting the dry beans at $1.50 a bag, but you're not counting the time it takes to soak them overnight, then boil them for an hour plus. My time is worth something, even if it's just sitting on the couch watching TV. Plus, canned beans are already seasoned and ready to go, so you're saving on spices and the electricity to cook them for that long. The $18 a month you're saving is basically the price of two fast food runs, and I'd rather have the extra hour of my week back than six bucks. Tbh, that cost breakdown leaves out the biggest cost of all, which is convenience.
