My worst Tuesday in years started with a flat tire and ended at a diner counter.
Last month I had a day where everything went wrong. My car got a flat on the highway near Austin, then my phone died right after I called for help. I ended up at a random diner waiting for the tow truck, and this older guy next to me offered me his charger. We talked for two hours about fishing trips and bad luck, and he told me about a cheap tire shop that saved me $80. Has anyone else had a horrible day turn around because a stranger stepped in?

Flat tire near El Paso last year, middle of nowhere, no cell service. Walked about a mile to this tiny gas station and the guy running it just handed me a can of Fix-a-Flat and a jug of water without saying a word. Wouldn't take money either. Just said "pay it forward sometime" and went back to watching a tiny TV behind the counter. Never saw him again but I still think about that dude every time I pass a stranded car on the highway.

@gavin692 that fix-a-flat story is gold. People like that restore your faith in humanity. I had a similar thing happen when my battery died in a parking lot. A guy in a beat up truck pulled up, didn't even ask, just hooked up his jumper cables and had me running in five minutes. He said the same thing about paying it forward. That's exactly what happened at the diner for me too, that stranger with the charger saved my whole afternoon and I ended up with a good tire shop recommendation out of it.
