Had to pick between two coffee shops for a meeting yesterday

I was supposed to meet a client near downtown Portland and had to choose between a quiet spot with terrible coffee or a loud place with amazing espresso. I gambled on the loud place and ended up talking to some guy at the counter who turned out to be a retired plumber who gave me a tip on a tricky drain issue I'd been fighting for weeks. Has anyone else had a random encounter like that where picking the wrong spot actually worked out better?
