Got told to 'just smile more' at a bar in Chicago and it actually worked

Was at a dive bar on Division St last March feeling sorry for myself after a bad week. Some random dude in a Cubs hat told me to stop looking so grumpy and just smile at people. I laughed it off but tried it for like 10 minutes and ended up talking to this girl who worked at a record shop. We dated for 4 months, so I guess the bad advice paid off weirdly. Anyone else had terrible advice turn out good?

Did you see that post about the guy who tried the opposite advice? My buddy Dan got told to "stop trying so hard" at a bar down in Wrigleyville and he just sat there not talking to anyone for an hour... ended up getting hit on by the bartender who felt bad for him. Weird how life works like that sometimes.

Wait, bartenders actually hit on dudes who look sad in Wrigleyville?

Funny how the worst advice sometimes works out. Had an old timer at a gas station once tell me to "just show up and shut up" when I was stressed about a date. Took it literally, barely said two words all night, and she thought I was mysterious or something. Dated her for six months. Still not sure what to make of that.
