Found a chess club meeting in the back of a Reno library and ended up with a new job
I walked into the Sierra View branch on a Tuesday to return a book and saw 8 guys hunched over boards in the corner room, and one of them turned out to be a hiring manager at a logistics company I'd applied to twice. We played 3 games, I lost all of them, and he still called me Thursday about a dispatch role.
Three losses and he still called, that says more about the guy than your chess game (which, ouch, 0 for 3). Losing badly is honestly a weirdly good interview, because it shows you won't storm off or flip the board when things go wrong. Dispatch work is basically triage all day, so a person who stays calm after getting beat down is worth more than a person who wins pretty. Sierra View branch, Tuesday afternoons, good to know.
