I judged a box of cereal by its mascot last month and my 8 year old nephew destroyed me
Last month I took my nephew to the grocery store in Dayton and we hit the cereal aisle, and I pointed at a box and said the mascot looked like a lazy knockoff. He stared at me for a second and then explained, in complete detail, that the character had a whole backstory episode from a Saturday morning block in 2018 that I never watched. He knew the sidekick's name, the catchphrase, and why the mascot got a new hat in the second season. I stood there holding a box feeling like the biggest fraud in the store. So now I want to know, is there a cereal mascot you wrote off as boring who actually has a deep story you didn't know about?
That bit about the catchphrase and the hat in the second season got me, cause I read somewhere that a bunch of those cereal mascots had full cartoon shorts online that never aired on TV. Like whole little series on a brand's website that nobody over the age of 10 ever clicked on. Your nephew probably knows more about cereal lore than the people who make the boxes, and that is honestly kind of amazing.
