Unpopular opinion: I used to swear by a 12-inch blade for carpet trimming, but switching to an 18-inch made a huge difference on a big commercial job in Cincinnati.

Still prefer the 12-inch for control on most jobs.

Honestly, dropping a tool is more about grip than length. A shorter one can actually give you better control for tight spaces. The 12-inch is great for leverage, but it can get clumsy when you're not working in the open. Tbh, a lot of it comes down to the handle shape and your own hand size.

My buddy switched to a smaller one for detail work and ended up dropping it twice in a week. The extra length just gives you more to hold onto, honestly. He went right back to his old reliable.
