Appreciation post: My uncle swore by using a 12-inch drywall knife for carpet seam adhesive.

I thought he was nuts until I tried it on a job in Tempe last week and it spread the glue WAY more evenly than my notched trowel. Anyone else use weird tools that actually work?

A 12-inch knife for carpet glue sounds completely unhinged. The idea of using a drywall tool for that is just wild. Guess the weird stuff works sometimes.

Oh my god, right? I mean I once used a paint scraper to spread tile adhesive in a pinch. It was a total mess but somehow it held. People get desperate and just grab whatever's nearby.

Wait, so did you have to press down really hard to get enough glue? My notched trowel digs in to leave those ridges, but a flat knife seems like it would just skim the top. Did you have to go over it a bunch of times to build up a good layer?
