That old carpenter at Home Depot who saved my cabinet job

I was grabbing supplies for a custom pantry I was building in November and this older guy named Frank stopped me in the lumber aisle. He saw me struggling to pick between two sheets of plywood and just said 'son, that top sheet has a hidden knot line that'll split on you in 6 months.' He was right, I swapped it out and the job came out perfect. Has anyone else had a random stranger at the lumber yard save them from a mistake?

Met that exact type of guy at a local lumber yard once, not a big box store. He saw me picking up a bundle of 2x4s and pointed out they were all twisted at the ends, said they got rained on last week. Saved me from hauling home a whole mess of warped wood I would've had to return later. It's wild how those old timers just know the small stuff that can wreck your whole project, makes you realize real experience is hard to beat.
