Heads up about warped studs from the Maple Ave supplier

Several houses on my block have framing issues after using lumber from that place. The wood seems to have high moisture content, leading to twisting over time. What's the best way to check for this before buying?

Have you tried using a moisture meter on site? That supplier's rep is getting WORSE, and @jordan_webb's story about the porch sagging really shows it. I always bring a straight edge and look for any bow or twist before loading up. Checking the end grain for dark spots can show hidden moisture too.

Yeah, my cousin's porch sagged from their wood last year.

Moisture meters are good, but they only check the surface. I learned that the hard way with some two-by-fours from a big box store that read 12% on the outside. The core was still wet, and they cupped like crazy after a month in my garage. The straight edge trick is solid, but you really need to check along the whole length, not just the middle. Look for any light gaps underneath it.
