Guy in Tucson told me his framing hammer was a family heirloom from 1942

He pulled out this beat up old hammer with a wooden handle that was basically black from sweat and said it had framed three generations of houses. Made me wonder how many of you still use tools that were handed down like that?

That hammer's got more soul than anything you'd buy off a shelf today.

@sarah_mason I'm with @eva_adams68 on this one. That hammer probably weighs a ton and the handle's likely got a bad crack you can't see. My dad gave me his old framing hammer from the 80s and I tried using it once. The head was loose after ten swings and I nearly threw my back out from the extra weight. Newer hammers are lighter, better balanced, and won't kill your elbow after a day of work. Nostalgia doesn't build a straight wall.

@sarah_mason Soul's just nostalgia, a hammer's a hammer.
