Finally ditched my speed square for a bevel gauge on crown molding
Used to fight with angles for 20 minutes per cut until a guy on a job site showed me the bevel gauge trick last Tuesday and now I'm done in under 5, anyone else make that switch?

Man I was the same way, fighting with that speed square like it owed me money. Switched to a bevel gauge last month after watching some old timer on YouTube and now I actually look forward to cutting crown. Took all of one practice scrap to figure out the transfer trick, now my miters come together tighter than a jar lid. Still keep the speed square in the truck for framing though, old habits die hard.

@the_emery that transfer trick is a game changer for sure. Took me a few cuts to wrap my head around it too, but once it clicks you wonder why you ever fought with that speed square. Keep a bevel gauge in the shop now and my crown corners never look like a hack job.
