Shoutout to asking how a report works

I always thought I should figure things out on my own. Last week, I asked a senior how a monthly report is made. She showed me her template and a couple key steps. Now I save time and my boss noticed the improvement.

Asking how stuff actually works is such a hidden skill (we're all just pretending until someone shows us the real steps). It's funny how much time we waste trying to figure out basic things on our own, when the person who did it last month already has the map. You see it everywhere, from work reports to fixing a sink. There's always someone who already went through the trouble, and most are happy to pass the cheat sheet along if you just ask.

Figuring things out on your own builds a deeper understanding that just following steps can't give you. Sometimes you need to get your hands dirty to really learn how something works. Asking for the map skips the part where you learn to read the terrain.

Totally get where maxt95 is coming from. That feeling of spinning your wheels on something for hours is the worst, especially when the answer was simple. Sometimes pride or the fear of looking dumb stops you from just asking, and it costs so much time. There's a real skill in knowing when to struggle through it yourself and when to just ask for the map.
