Wasn't there a study about how constant noise messes with stress hormones? Like even background city sounds keep your nervous system on alert. Getting true quiet must be what lets it finally dial down.

Heard a thing on NPR about traffic noise causing cortisol spikes even during sleep. Your body never gets the all clear signal to relax.
