Pro tip: I compared sending a generic cover letter to one I tailored for a specific job at a tech startup in Raleigh, and the tailored one got me an interview in 3 days.
The difference was I spent 20 minutes researching the company and mentioned their recent project on sustainable data centers, which showed I actually cared about their work, not just any job.

No kidding. I did the same thing last month with a local brewery. I read an interview where the owner talked about using leftover grain for compost, so I worked that into my cover letter. Got a call back the next week. That tiny bit of homework makes you stand out in a stack of a hundred generic letters.

That's wild it worked for @susan_bell. Feels like a lot of pressure just to get a foot in the door though.

I always thought that stuff was kind of cheesy, but hearing how well it worked for you guys makes a lot of sense. I guess it just shows you actually give a damn about the place you're trying to work at. Maybe I'll try that next time.
