Question about those cheap foam sleeping pads

A guy at the trailhead in the White Mountains called my old closed-cell foam pad 'a medieval torture device' after I complained about a sore back. I switched to a basic inflatable one, and the difference after a week on the AT was insane. What's the cheapest upgrade that actually made you sleep better outside?

That upgrade is a total game changer for real.

Seventeen years is a good run for a sleeping pad, honestly.
