Can we talk about how nobody reads the temp ratings on sleeping bags right?
I grabbed a bag rated for 20 degrees for a trip up near Flagstaff last month and about froze at 38. Turns out that rating is more of a survival number than a comfort number. A guy at the shop told me to add 15 to 20 degrees to whatever the tag says. So now I just look at the comfort rating or bring a liner, works way better. Anyone else get burned by this or is it just me?
Learned this one the hard way too. Those temp ratings are basically lies unless you sleep in a full down suit. I always add at least 15 degrees now and it works out way better. Some brands do list a comfort rating on the tag which is more honest. If it only shows one number, just assume it means you will live through the night, not sleep good. Bring a liner no matter what, it weighs nothing and saves your whole trip.
