Used to rely on feel for shutter speeds, now I just test every single camera

For 10 years I'd adjust a leaf shutter by ear and hope it was close enough, but after a Rolleicord I let out of the shop came back with a full stop error six months ago, I bought a $60 shutter tester off eBay. That little device caught a sticky slow speed on a Mamiya that I would have missed for sure. How long did it take you to start trusting test equipment over your fingers?

Trusting a $60 tool over 10 years of experience felt wrong, but the numbers don't lie

That tool just made your experience look bad.
