People keep confusing 'emancipation' with 'divorce from parents' in California family court

I sat through three hearings in LA last month and watched a 16-year-old try to file for emancipation just because his mom wouldn't let him have a car, so why does nobody read the actual requirement that he has to prove he's already supporting himself financially?

Yeah, totally agree with you @carr.elliot, the system's super unfair to regular teens.

Granted that kid was clueless, but the system is so picky about financial independence that it basically only works for teen actors and trust fund kids who already got jobs on their own.
