Paid $350 for a pre-trial settlement review, got nothing but a form letter
I hired a guy in Fresno to look over a settlement offer from my car accident case, figured $350 was worth the peace of mind since I didn't want to get lowballed. He sent back a generic 2-page summary that just repeated the insurance company's own numbers, no actual legal insight or negotiation tips. Has anyone else paid for this kind of 'consultation' and felt like you could've gotten the same result from a Google search?

Man, that stinks but honestly what did you expect for $350? Lawyers charge that for like an hour of their time and you basically got a receipt and a summary. The real value in those reviews is if they actually dig into the policy limits or spot something shady, but most of the time it's just a guy rubber stamping the offer so he can say he looked at it. You probably would've been better off spending that money on a real negotiation session where you grill them with questions, not a "review" where they just hand you back your own paperwork. Take it as a lesson that cheap legal help is usually just expensive common sense. Your mileage may vary but I've seen way too many of these "settlement review" gigs that are basically just a form letter factory.
