ADR in Fresno felt like a rubber stamp parade

I sat through a mediation last month in Fresno for a fender bender case and the neutral barely read our briefs before pushing everyone to split the difference. The whole process took 4 hours but it seemed like the only real goal was clearing the calendar, not actually weighing the facts. Is court really so backed up that we accept this level of rushed outcome just to avoid a trial date?
