This old guy in a Denver apartment building told me 'you kids and your fiber, my copper's been fine since '87' and I didn't know how to respond.

He was blocking the utility closet with his vintage stereo setup and genuinely wanted to debate the merits of RG-59 versus modern drops, so what's the best way you've found to handle a customer who's super attached to their old infrastructure?

Just nod and say "can't argue with what works." Let them have their win, then ask if you can move the stereo for a second to check the panel. Gets you past the debate and into the closet.

Can't argue with what works" is the perfect line. I used to try and explain why new stuff was better, which just made people dig in. After reading what umar59 said, I tried that exact move on a guy who had a whole phone system from the 90s wired with cat3. Just agreed his setup was solid, asked to move one box to trace a line, and got the job done. It saves so much time.

Can't argue with what works" is basically how you get through half of life.

Feel that in my bones. Spent years trying to win arguments about better methods. Now I just agree and get to work. Saves everyone a headache.
