Honestly, after making stuff for ages, I'm sure hunting for the 'perfect' tool just wastes your creative juice.

That search for the perfect thing before starting is everywhere once you see it. People will research camera gear for a year instead of taking photos on their phone, or buy every kitchen gadget while the simple knife gathers dust. It feels like moving forward, but it's really just a very pretty way to stall. The mind would rather plan the perfect project than face the hard work of a real one. At the end of the day, the best tool is the one that gets you to begin.

Appreciation post: My old stretcher finally gave out mid-job yesterday.

Seriously, was using the knee kicker for ten feet actually that awful? I've had way worse with a hand stapler in a tight closet. Those old stretchers dying is just part of the job, happens to everyone eventually.

My best deals came from ignoring the crowd at conferences

Totally! I skip half the sessions on purpose. Honestly the best chats happen in the hallway or at some random table in the back. You can actually talk shop without someone looking over your shoulder for a better contact.

How a shared string check ended alignment arguments in my crew

Wait, you guys actually point at the wet concrete together?

My boss made me redraw a plan by hand and it was INFURIATING but right

How often does that mix of being mad and then getting it happen? That story from @noah730 about the sewer line is the perfect example. You feel like an idiot for missing it, but also weirdly smarter for finally seeing it. The slowness of drawing by hand just makes your brain check things in a way clicking around never does. It's like your eyes finally work right.
