I laughed at the old guy who said to sweep my fittings before every crimp, then a callback in Fresno cost me a whole Saturday
For about two years I just grabbed a fitting, shoved the cable in, and crimped, figuring dust and little shavings would not matter. Then a guy named Roger on my crew kept a little brush in his pouch and wiped every single one before he closed it, and I gave him grief about it for weeks. Last month I got sent back to a house in Fresno for a bad picture on one TV, and when I pulled the fitting off, there was a tiny curl of braid stuck right across the center pin. Now I keep a brush in my pouch too, and I want to know what other small habit you all picked up from an old timer that turned out to be right.

That curl of braid across the center pin is such a small thing to kill a whole Saturday, and Roger probably ate lunch alone for weeks while you gave him grief about a brush. I've had the same deal with old timers telling me to torque to spec instead of guessing, and the one time I skipped it I was back at the same panel two days later. The annoying ones are usually right, which is the worst part.
