Unpopular opinion: pre-finished plywood is way better than site-finished for most jobs
I keep seeing guys in this group raving about hand-rubbed finishes and how pre-finished stuff is for hacks. But I did a big kitchen remodel in a house out near Reno last year. 30 cabinets, all pre-finished maple ply. Customer wanted it done in 6 days start to finish. No way I could have pulled that off with on-site finishing. No dust, no fumes, no waiting for lacquer to cure. And 10 months later I stopped by and it still looked great. I mean, sure if you're building a $50k custom baroque thing maybe go with the hand stuff. But for normal people's kitchens? I don't get the hate. Anyone else find pre-finish holds up just as well for daily use?

Why does everyone act like you're committing a crime if you don't spend three days sanding? Pre-finished saves my sanity and still looks good.

People get weirdly intense about sanding like it's some kind of sacred ritual. As long as the finish sticks and your floors don't look like trash, who cares if you saved yourself a weekend of dust and back pain? Are your floors actually peeling up, or is it just internet snobs getting dramatic again?
