The $300 plywood I bought twice because I trusted a tape measure
Picked up a full sheet of maple ply for a custom pantry job. Measured the opening twice, cut it once. Fits perfectly except I forgot the hinges need 3/4 inch recess. Slammed the door on my own thumb. Had to drive 40 minutes back to the lumber yard in Denver and drop another $300. Now I label every cut with the actual hinge depth in big marker. Anyone else forget the obvious and pay double?
Man that thumb slam is the worst part, I can feel it just reading it. Dropping that kind of money twice on the same sheet hurts deep, and the 40 minute drive each way just adds insult. It is always the thing you knew about but skipped because you were in a hurry. Hinge depth has burned me too, that 3/4 inch bite disappears fast once the face frame is on. The big marker labeling every cut is smart, I started writing the actual math right on the board after my own mess. You only make that drive once before the lesson sticks.
