PSA: Social Security dropped my date by accident 3 years ago, and my lawyer caught it in a week
Back in 2021 I got a letter saying my disability hearing was set for March 14th in Fresno, then a second letter two days later moving it to June. I called the office four times and nobody could explain why. My rep at the time just said wait it out. Last month I finally hired a disability lawyer after 14 months of nothing, and she pulled my file in about six days. Turns out the hearing office entered my date wrong, so my case was sitting in a pile marked closed since 2022. She got it reopened and I have a phone hearing set for next month. I keep thinking about how many people just give up after a letter like that. Did anyone else here have their hearing date get messed up like this, and how long did it take to fix?
my case was sitting in a pile marked closed since 2022" man that line got me because my buddy Dave went through almost the same thing, except his was a work comp case not social security. He got a letter about a mediation date, then a letter saying it was pushed back, and then just nothing for over a year while his lawyer kept telling him to be patient. Turns out somebody at the other office typed his claim number in wrong by one digit, so all his paperwork went into a dead file and nobody flagged it because the system thought the case was already done. He finally got a different lawyer who called the office directly and got a human on the phone, and it got sorted in like two weeks after 13 months of silence. The worst part was he almost quit the whole thing twice because he figured maybe he just wasn't supposed to get anything. Your lawyer pulling your file in six days shows how fast this stuff can get fixed when someone actually looks at it, which just makes the sitting around part feel even worse.
