Pro tip: I used to go with the cheapest disability lawyer I could find

Man, I used to just pick whatever lawyer had a big billboard or the lowest retainer. Two years ago I went with some guy in San Diego who charged $1k up front and I got denied twice. Now I actually vet their track record with SSA judges and ask about their specific experience with chronic pain cases. Has anyone else had better luck with a mid-range lawyer over a budget one?

Yeah but hold on, I don't think paying more automatically means better results either. I had a buddy who dropped like $5k on some big firm in LA and still got denied twice because they just assigned him a junior associate who barely looked at his records. The real trick is finding someone who actually specializes in the specific type of disability you have. My cousin went with a mid-range lawyer who only does back and spine cases and got approved first try. So it's less about price and more about finding somebody whose whole practice matches your situation.

Honestly yeah, that's a pattern I see everywhere not just with lawyers. People think cheap or easy is the way to go with anything, then end up paying for it later in headaches or wasted time. It's like buying the cheapest tool at the hardware store, you're probably gonna have to buy a better one in a month anyway. Same with hiring someone, you're better off spending a little more upfront for someone who actually knows what they're doing. Sucks that we gotta learn that lesson the hard way most of the time lol.
