Three years of burnt cookies and I finally figured out the rack position
I always put my cookie sheets on the top rack because I thought that's where the heat was strongest. Then last week my oven manual fell out of a drawer (weird, right?) and I saw a diagram showing the middle rack is for even baking. I had been charring the tops and undercooking the bottoms for like 3 years of Christmas cookies. Has anyone else had a 'read the manual' moment way too late?

Wait, wait, wait. Your oven MANUAL fell out of a drawer by itself after three years? That's some spooky stuff right there lol. But okay, the cookie thing is even more wild. So for three years you were out here burning the tops and leaving the bottoms raw like some kind of cookie monster nightmare? I can't even imagine the disappointment of pulling out a tray thinking you nailed it and just getting charcoal on top and dough on the bottom. That manual dropping was a sign from the baking gods for sure.

Oh my gosh, right?! It's like the universe finally got tired of watching you suffer through bad cookies and decided to step in! This totally fits a bigger pattern I've noticed too. How many times do we just keep doing something the same dumb way because "that's how it's always been" even when it clearly stinks? Like my friend who used an ancient rusty can opener for years because her grandma gave it to her, then got a five dollar one and couldn't believe the difference. Or how I used to put my phone charger in the same bad spot that always fell behind the bed, then moved it six inches and suddenly no more crawling on the floor every morning. Sometimes we all just need a literal manual to fall out of the sky to shake us out of our habits.
