Found out my oven runs 40 degrees hot after 2 years of burnt cookies
I was at my sister's place in Tucson last weekend and she had one of those $12 oven thermometers hanging on the rack. She said her landlord's oven was so bad she bought it just to check. I laughed and said mine was fine, but she shoved it in my bag when I left. Got home, popped it in, set the oven to 350 like always. The needle climbed right past 350 and stopped near 390. Two years. Two years of burned edges on cookies, dry chicken, and that one Thanksgiving where my green bean casserole came out looking like charcoal in a dish. I just thought I was bad at baking. Now I'm wondering how many of my ruined dinners were actually the oven lying to me. Has anybody else found out their oven temp was way off, and did you bother getting it fixed or just learn the magic number?
