My sister insisted I try the 'future log only' method for 3 months straight

She kept saying I was overcomplicating my bullet journal with all those daily spreads and mood trackers. I fought her on it for like 2 weeks but finally gave in back in October. Honestly? She was right. Just having that future log with key dates and a simple monthly calendar made me way less stressed about keeping up with the journal. I almost quit bullet journaling before because it felt like a second job. Now I just jot down events and tasks and actually look at it every morning. Has anyone else had a family member call them out on their system and it actually worked?

Man I heard a lady on a podcast say the exact same thing about keeping it simple. Glad your sister talked some sense into you, that future log trick sounds like a game changer.

I mean, I get why people say keep it simple, but honestly, that future log thing sounds like just another way to overcomplicate stuff. Idk, trying to plan out months ahead in a journal feels like you're setting yourself up to fail when life throws a curveball. Maybe it's just me, but I've seen people burn out on bullet journaling because they're too focused on the system instead of actually doing the thing. Like, my sister tried that whole future log method and ended up with a notebook full of empty slots and a lot of guilt. Seems like sometimes the simpler approach is just writing it on a sticky note and dealing with it tomorrow.

Oof no, wait, I gotta jump in here real quick! The future log thing isn't actually about planning months ahead in detail. It's more like jotting down the big stuff you already know is coming, like a doctor's appointment in February or a friend's wedding in April. You're not supposed to fill every single day with plans, just the major events so you don't forget them. And then when the month actually starts, you migrate those events into your monthly spread and go from there. Honestly, it just takes the pressure off trying to remember everything in your head.
