My hostel bed collapsed in Barcelona at 2 AM
Was in a 12-bed dorm in Barcelona, woke up to the top bunk frame giving out under me. Landed on some guy's backpack, scrambled to help him rehang it with zip ties from my toiletries kit. Anyone else pack zip ties for travel emergencies?

Nah, zip ties are OVERKILL. Just use a spare shoelace like a normal person.

Tried the shoelace trick once on a road trip. It worked for a few hours but came loose after I hit a bumpy stretch. Ended up using a couple of heavy duty zip ties I found in my glove box. Never had an issue after that and they're still on there 2 years later.
