The $4 yardstick that settled a 2-week fence argument
My neighbor and I went back and forth about property lines for two weeks after he put up a new fence. I looked up the county records online, but the drawing was blurry and I couldn't tell where his posts actually sat. Turns out the local hardware store sells a 6-foot aluminum yardstick for $4, and I ran it along the sidewalk to measure from the storm drain to his corner post. The numbers lined up perfectly with the deed, and he admitted I was right after I showed him the tape measure marks. Now I keep that yardstick in my trunk for any weird measuring job. Has anyone else used something cheap and simple to settle a dispute that felt way more complicated than it needed to be?

I used to think those little measuring tricks were dumb and you should just trust the paperwork, but honestly this is genius. Sometimes the simplest tool is the one that finally gets through to someone.
