Showerthought: That $20 thrift store rice cooker outlasted my $200 one
I bought a fancy Zojirushi 2 years ago and the inner coating started peeling after 6 months. Picked up a basic no-name rice cooker from Goodwill for 20 bucks last weekend just as a backup. Thing is built like a tank, works perfectly every time, and I swear the rice comes out just as good. Anyone else found a random thrift store appliance that blows the expensive stuff out of the water?

@lee.drew brings up a good point about those old Zojirushis and kitchen gadgets. What exactly makes that thrifted 90s mixer run smoother than a brand new one? Is it just better build quality from back then, or is there a specific part that lasts longer?

Had a buddy who bought a $300 KitchenAid stand mixer on sale, and his thrifted 90s model from a garage sale still runs smoother than his brand new one. The old one's got this chipped paint look that somehow makes it cooler too.
