Question about cheap phone chargers from a gas station

I grabbed a $5 charger from a Speedway last month when mine broke, and it fried my phone's port in like two days. The repair cost me $80 at a local shop in Springfield. Has anyone found a cheap brand that actually lasts more than a week?

Man, @james_campbell12 has a point about lint. But those gas station chargers can have bad wiring inside. It sends the wrong voltage straight to your phone.

Honestly, are we sure the charger killed the port? My phone's charging port got messed up last year and it was just pocket lint packed in there super tight.

Your lint comment made me check my own port. Found enough fluff in there to knit a tiny sweater for a mouse. But I've also had a cheap charger fry a phone before, so now I'm that guy who carries a little keychain brush and only uses the brick that came in the box. It's a sad, careful life.
