Had to pick between a $40 cooler and a $120 one for my beach trips this summer

I was at the Walmart in Myrtle Beach last week staring at two coolers. The cheap one was a Coleman that said it keeps ice for 1 day, and the expensive one was an Ozark Trail that claims 3 days. I went with the cheaper one because I'm on a tight budget, and honestly after 6 hours on the sand on Saturday all my drinks were still cold. Has anyone else had luck with the cheaper coolers for day trips?

I used to be the guy who always bought the expensive cooler thinking you had to spend a lot to keep stuff cold. But last summer I grabbed a $40 Coleman for a weekend fishing trip and it kept ice for nearly two days in the hot sun. Just threw a bag of ice in there with the drinks and packed it tight, and it did the job fine. For a day on the beach I bet you could save the extra money for good sandwiches instead.

My oldest cooler is a Coleman too and I've had it for like 8 years now. Still works fine for day trips. People get too caught up in the brand names and the fancy features. You just need a block of ice and some cold drinks for a few hours on the sand. The extra 80 bucks could buy a whole beach umbrella and some snacks.

Wait, two days out of a $40 cooler? That's wild.
