The grizzled foreman in Fort Worth made me rebuild a corner from scratch and it finally clicked
I was laying a block corner on a 30 foot wall at a job site in Fort Worth last month when old Ray, a foreman with 40 years in the trade, told me to tear out the last 5 courses I'd just set. He said my corner was running out of plumb by a quarter inch because I was eyeballing it instead of checking with a level every 3 courses. Cost me 2 hours of rework, but now I keep a 4 foot level on the corner at all times and my walls have never gone up straighter. Has anyone else had a foreman who was harsh but right about something you'd been doing wrong for a long time?
