Spent $180 on a used mixer that saved my back

I was hand mixing mud for years until my shoulder started barking. Picked up a used Jiffy mixer from a guy on Craigslist and it cut my mixing time by more than half. Anyone else jump on used gear and have it work out?

Saved my back" is a stretch. I get that hand mixing sucks but $180 for a used Jiffy? Thats nearly what a brand new one costs. Ive seen them go for $150 on sale. Used gear can be a good deal but not when you pay almost full price for someone elses dust. Plus those Jiffy mixers have plastic gears that strip out if you look at them wrong. Hope you got lucky but I wouldve waited for a better deal.

Hows the gearbox holding up on yours? I keep reading about people torquing those things the wrong way and snapping the plastic internals, especially if the mix gets a little stiff. Did you check the gear condition before you handed over the cash, or did you just roll the dice on it?
