My mortar mixer's belt snapped halfway through a foundation job yesterday afternoon.

I ended up finishing the batch by hand with a hoe in a wheelbarrow, which added about 2 hours to the day, so has anyone found a really durable replacement belt brand for a Whiteman M-100?

Elliot's right about the tension. I just buy the OEM belts from my supply house now, it's not worth the headache when they snap.

Nothing builds character like mixing mortar by hand for two extra hours. I've had good luck with the Gates PowerBand belts on my old mixer, they seem to last a bit longer than the cheap ones. The key is getting the tension right, too tight and you're just asking for another snap.

That whole tension thing reminds me of my uncle's ancient tiller. He'd spend more time messing with the drive chain than actually tilling the garden. One summer it threw a link right into his tomato plants, made a real mess. He never did get the sag right, always swore it was fine right up until it wasn't.
