My mortar mix choice cost me a day of rework on a patio in Phoenix

I had to pick between a quick-setting mix and the standard type S for a backyard patio last July. I went with the quick-set to beat the heat, but it dried too fast and cracked three slabs before I could finish. I tore it out and re-did it with type S, took 9 hours extra. Has anyone else had quick-set go wrong on a big pour?

Used to swear by quick-set, now I'm a type S guy after that exact mistake.
