I finally bought a $400 laser level for a big foundation job and it saved me two full days of string line work.

Has anyone else found a tool that paid for itself that fast on a specific project?

My cordless angle grinder was like that. Bought it to cut a bunch of rebar for a concrete pad, and it saved so much time over using a hacksaw that it was worth the cost by the end of that one weekend.

What brand of laser level did you go with? I've been looking at them for laying out floor tile but some models seem way more complicated than I need.

My old boss used to say fancy tools just make lazy workers. I spent two days setting up string lines for a foundation once and it taught me way more about reading the site than any laser would. That hands on time is where you learn to spot problems before they get buried in concrete. Riley_miller25 might love that angle grinder, but I bet a steady hand with a hacksaw gives you more control and less chance of a costly mistake. Sometimes the slower way is the smarter way because it forces you to pay attention. I've seen guys with all the gear still pour a crooked footing.
