That trip to the Denver Botanic Gardens changed how I water my houseplants

I went to the Denver Botanic Gardens last weekend and saw their tropical greenhouse setup. They use a long spout watering can instead of just dumping water on the soil like I do. The guide said it lets you water the roots without getting the leaves wet which prevents mold. I picked up a similar can for $15 at the garden center there and my pothos already looks happier. Has anyone else noticed a big difference switching to a specific type of watering can?

Man, I used to be a total skeptic about watering cans honestly. I figured water is water, it all ends up in the dirt anyway... but after reading your post I actually went and bought a cheap long spout one from a hardware store. My snake plant was getting those weird brown spots on the leaves and I couldn't figure out why, turns out I was just soaking the foliage every time. It's only been a couple weeks but the new growth looks way cleaner and I don't see any of that mushy stuff near the base anymore. I feel kinda dumb for rolling my eyes at people who swore by specific cans before, but hey, better late than never right?

Read a study saying wet leaves can actually cause fungal issues in snake plants, @wadem89.
