Just realized a steady hand for fore-edge painting comes from elbow control
I started trying fore-edge painting on some personal journals last month, and my lines were always shaky. Watched a video where the artist kept their wrist still and moved from the shoulder and elbow instead. Practiced that motion with a pencil on scrap paper for a week before touching a book, and it made a huge difference. The curves are much smoother now.

Oh yeah, that reminds me of when I tried calligraphy. I kept getting wobbly lines until someone pointed out the shoulder thing. Practicing big arm movements on newsprint really changed my game. It's funny how we default to tiny wrist motions when bigger ones work better. I even use that idea now when I sketch outside, like for tree branches. Body awareness in art is such a hidden skill.

Remember branches need wrist flicks too.
