The audiobook narrator switch that changed my whole view
I used to skip audiobooks because I figured the narrator didn't matter much, just the story. Then my book club picked a title and the guy reading it did every character with the same flat voice for 11 hours. Has anyone else had a narrator completely ruin or save a book for them, or am I the last one to learn this lesson?

Different take here, but I actually love when a narrator brings their own flavor even if it's not what I pictured. It's like hearing a song covered by a different band, sometimes it hits weird but sometimes it becomes the only version I can hear.
A flat reading is rough for sure, but I've also had narrators with too much drama who made me cringe. The sweet spot is someone who just sounds like they're telling you a story over coffee, not performing a one-man play.
Guess it depends on what you're listening for, but I'll take a boring narrator over one who tries way too hard any day.
