My aunt told me to skip the intro questions and go straight to the big fight

She said our book club in Austin was getting too polite, so last month for 'The Secret History', I started by asking if anyone thought the main group was actually friends. It got super heated right away (people were literally pointing at pages to prove their point). We argued for like 40 minutes straight, which is way longer than our usual chats. Has anyone else tried jumping into the deep end first to get a better debate going?

Our book club in Portland did that with 'Gone Girl' and asked who was more to blame right off the bat. We barely even talked about the plot for the first half hour.

Wow, I always thought you should discuss the plot first, but that's brilliant.

That's the only way to do it with that book. The plot is just a setup for the real argument about those two people. Starting with blame gets right to the heart of it.
