Unpopular opinion: the tube wall thickness spec surprised me more than the weld itself
I was going through the ASME code book at the shop in Gary last month and found out the minimum wall thickness on a 2 inch tube can be listed down to the thousandth of an inch depending on the service. I always assumed there was a bit more wiggle room than that, maybe a sixteenth or so. Spent about 45 minutes reading the same table twice just to make sure I wasn't misreading the decimal point. It made me go back and double check my last three measurements on the job. How do you all keep your decimal places straight when you are reading specs on the floor?
